Continuing Education Units Approval Process
The Wyoming Psychological Association approves Continuing Education Units for licensure renewal in Wyoming. Up to 20 contact hours may be earned by completing activities reviewed and approved by WPA. The other 10 hours needed for re-licensure must be APA approved. APA approved conferences do not need WPA approval.
Approval guidelines
In order to be approved for CEUs, conferences must meet the following criteria:
- Be offered for psychologists.
- Be psychological in nature and relevant to maintaining or increasing professional competence in psychology.
- Will make you a better professional psychologist providing services to the public.
- Activities which gain knowledge and skills; for example, the application of psychological principles to systems.
The following types of conferences WILL NOT be approved:
- Business of practice.
- Non-psychological information.
- Conferences to make you a better teacher.
Required Information
Conference brochures or a copy may be mailed, e-mailed, or faxed to the WPA office. The brochures should include:
- The number of continuing education credit hours offered for the activity.
- Participants for whom the activity is designed.
- Schedule and format including starting and ending hours, meals and other breaks.
- Faculty credentials.
In addition, applicants should send a statement indicating how the conference is relevant to their practice.
Deadline
Psychologists wanting advance approval for a conference must send the required information at least one month before the registration deadline to allow time for the approval process to take place. WPA will attempt to have a turn-around time of two weeks. Approval after attendance at a conference may also be obtained by, but there is no guarantee that approval will be given just because a psychologist has already attended a program.
Fees
- WPA Members – no charge – this is a free Member service
- Non-WPA Members - 1-6 hours - $30.00, over 6 hours - $40.00. This fee is for each conference needing approval. Example: conference one is 5 hours and conference two is 14 hours: the fee would be $70.
- A fee is charged each psychologist requesting approval even if the conference has already been approved for someone else.
- A fee of $5.00 will be charged for a replacement CEU form
Documentation
WPA will send a form to each psychologist requesting CEUs indicating approval or denial. The documentation from WPA and the documentation from the conference are sent to the Board of Psychology for re-licensure.
